What is our Lesson Structure?

We offer once a week lessons. The majority of our lessons are private one on one lessons. We do also offer semi-private and group options depending on your location. Our lessons contain a mix of theory and practical instruction, tailored for each students wants and needs. For the weeks you cannot make it to lesson, we offer a variety of rescheduling options.

For more information, please view our full information on our Lessons page, including what instruments we teach!

What Ages do you teach?

We welcome students of all ages! Most instruments begin at age 4, while some—such as cello and woodwinds—are best suited for slightly older beginners(7+). We also teach all levels, from brand-new musicians to advanced players, including adult students.

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

Every student learns at a different pace, but most beginners start playing simple songs within the first few weeks. With consistent practice and regular lessons, students typically begin building strong foundational skills within 3–6 months. More advanced playing can take a year or more, depending on the instrument, practice habits, and individual goals.

At Applause Music Academy, our teachers tailor each lesson to the student’s learning style and speed—so progress feels natural, encouraging, and fun!

Can I change Instruments?

Absolutely! Students are welcome to switch instruments at any time. Whether you’ve discovered a new interest or want to explore another style, we’ll help you transition smoothly. Just let the front desk know, and we’ll match you with the right teacher and schedule. Many students try a few instruments before finding their perfect fit!

Do I need to purchase books or other materials in order to attend my lessons?

Yes! We do use lesson books. You’re welcome to purchase them from us, online, or from any store you prefer. Your instructor will let you know exactly which books are needed and guide you through what to buy so your student has the right materials for their level.

Can I observe my child’s lessons?

Yes! Parents are welcome to observe lessons—either inside the room or through our observation window. Some students focus best with a parent present, while others thrive with fewer distractions. We encourage families to choose whichever option helps their child feel most comfortable and supported.

Are Your instructors qualified?

We hire the absolute best professional and university-trained music teachers who all hold Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate degrees in Music, Pedagogy and/or early childhood development. Our teachers are fun, engaging and caring. They tailor each lesson to the student based on their level and ability to make their experience fun and positive.

Do I need to have My Own instrument?

You don’t need to have an instrument to get started!* In fact, you can think of AMA as your music concierge service. When you get enrolled with us, we’re here to provide you with our best recommendations of instruments that will fit within your budget, so whether you’re testing the waters to see if the kiddos will stick with it, or you’re ready to go pro, we can help guide you through the buying process.

*For most instruments, we have one available for a trial lesson, please let us know if you will need to borrow so we can make sure things are prepared for you!

What genres or styles do you teach?

We teach a wide range of musical styles to fit every student’s taste and goals. Our instructors specialize in classical, pop, rock, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary worship, film music, and more. Whether a student wants to read sheet music, write their own songs, improvise, or play along with their favorite artists, we tailor lessons to their interests and preferred genre.

Do you have performance Opportunities?

Yes! We hold two official recitals each year, where every participating student receives a trophy to celebrate their hard work and growth. In addition to our main recitals, we also host multiple showcases, community performances, and special events throughout the year, giving students plenty of opportunities to build confidence and share their music with others.

We offer both in person and online lessons, or if you prefer a hybrid option to mix it up, we can do that too! Our in person lessons take place at one of our 3 academy locations – Glendora, Rancho Cucamonga, or Upland. You can view more information about our locations here!
